For The Planet
The challenge we face:
It's a simple fact that the UK must reduce its CO₂ emmissions by 80% by 2050 to meet its Net-Zero obligations. The challenge is how we get there. We need a plan for tackling the 26 million homes that aren't yet CO₂-friendly.
According to the ‘Government Assessment Strategy’, construction output in the UK is more than £110 billion per year of which 25% is public sector and 75% private sector. 40% of all that construction is refurbishment and maintenance. Domestic retrofit sits within the refurbishment category, accounting for around three million jobs.
Approximately 80% of the homes we live in today will still be in use in 2050 - meaning there is a huge logistical task ahead to bring this housing up to the necessary environmental standards.
