Project Overview:
The property occupies the bottom two floors of a Grade II listed Georgian mid-terrace house in the New River Conservation Area in Islington.
The principles of the development were to reconfigure and completley modernise the existing duplex maisonette, adding a new rear extension and better connecting the reception room, kitchen and new dining area.
Having been converted into flats in the 70's, there was very poor acoustic spearation with the flat above, as such a sophisticated low profile acoustic ceiling was required to the upper floor bedrooms (in line with the requirements of the Listed Building consent). In addition the client was keen to future-proof and climate-proof the property, therefore an extensive new insulation strategy was employed to faciliate the replacement of the existing gas boiler with an external Air Source Heat Pump, fully removing the property from the gas grid.
The result is a light, open-plan kitchen & dining room focussed onto the rear garden, but with open access onto the formal reception room. Extensive internal refurbishment and modernisation were carried out throughout to improve function and aesthetic, whilst also retaining and refurbishing original Georgian elements such as the timber sash windows, timber floors and internal shutters.
Our typical palette of materials and standard products are complemented by Superfront kitchen fronts & Oak veneered ply joinery, which help provide a more traditional edge to the otherwise simple modern aesthetic.
